Trick or Treat? Or study?

With Halloween landing on a Monday this year, many students are focusing on their studies and reserving Halloween festivities for the weekend.

As midterms are wrapping up, students on campus are struggling to find time for Halloween activities and costume shopping. However, most people are choosing to party and celebrate on the weekend, saving Halloween day for midterms and studying.

“I’ll probably be preparing for events with my club,” said Brent Huynh, a sophomore majoring in biomedical engineering. “It’s a Christian organization, but we are going to have a dinner party before Halloween, so like a Halloween eve party.”

Similarly, other students are having their Halloween activities on the weekend prior to its actual day Monday.

“I’ll probably go to some parties or a club or something,” said Devin Argalam, a senior majoring in business.

“[Going] to parties, dressing up, hanging out … just like doing kind of what everyone else is doing,” said Brandon Barnes, a freshman majoring in biology.

While many students are going out on the weekend to celebrate Halloween, other students are reserving their Halloween weekend for studying, especially since midterms are continuing through the next few weeks.

“I plan to stay in my lab and do some research,” said Helen Yang, a second-year mechanical engineering graduate student.

USC is hosting multiple events this Halloween weekend to get students involved with festivities. On Monday, October 31, USC is hosting a Peace Garden Fall Festival and Halloween Party from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., where students are encouraged to dress up in costumes, decorate pumpkins and take pictures in their photo booth.

On Friday, October 28 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., Late Night ‘SC is hosting a movie night at Alumni Park. Students will be given a food ticket for Nitropod’s ice cream and materials for DIY candy bag making.
