L.A. City Council meeting persists despite protests

On this episode of Annenberg TV News, we take you inside L.A. City Council’s first in-person meeting since a leaked audio recording exposed council members’ racism

L.A. city council members meet in-person for the first time in nearly two weeks, wearing headsets to combat the sound of protests demanding Council members Gil Cedillo and Kevin de León’s resignation. Neither Cedillo nor De León attended the meeting, but the council voted unanimously to hold a special election to replace former Councilmember President, Nury Martinez, in April 2023.

Adidas is the latest company to terminate its partnership with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, after the rapper said, “I can say anti-Semitic things, and Adidas can’t drop me” on a podcast. The company formerly carried Ye’s sneaker brand, Yeezy.

Rishi Sunak officially takes over as Britain’s prime minister. He is the country’s third prime minister in three months and is both the first person of color and non-Christian to hold the position.
