Has Disneyland become the most expensive place on Earth?
Earlier today Disneyland officials confirmed that ticket prices have increased about 8%. The price of a one day ticket ranges from $104 to $179 depending on the day. The most expensive one-day park hopper Disneyland and Disney California Adventures ticket is priced at $244 a day. That means that for a family of four, a one day trip to Disneyland will cost almost $1,000. That’s not including food or gas.
We asked USC Marshall students as to why they think Disney may be raising their prices. Justin Harris, a second year MBA student shares why he thinks the company made this decision.
Justin Harris: “I think that Disney is raising their prices because of COVID 19, and since it was shut down, they needed to raise their profits. And by doing so, they raise the prices of the tickets sales.”
Justin Who, a senior studying pharmacology and drug development believes people will still go to Disneyland no matter what.
Justin Who: “People really, really love Disney and they’re willing to go in no matter what. Like, I know a couple of people who have annual passes and make their way down to Anaheim to go all the time.”
Jenny Brown, a double major in journalism and vocal arts student, also expressed her frustrations against the decision of the park in general. More specifically, she cites a few of the park amenities and perks, alongside the price hike.
Jenny Brown: “There’s just been a lot of things that Disney has been doing that have made it harder for people to enjoy the parks like they used to. I remember when I was younger, fast passes were not something that you had to pay for. Anyone could do it.”
Brown recognizes that the price rises may be an effort the enforce barriers to entry into the parks. However, it seems like nothing is going to stop her from enjoying The Happiest Place On Earth.
Jenny Brown: “Yeah, I’ll still definitely be going.”
So, has Disneyland become the most expensive place on Earth, or the happiest place on Earth?
