Jack Harlow dominated the stage at the Kia Forum on Tuesday, Sept. 20 for an eager 18,000-person audience.
This past summer, Harlow blew up on TikTok with the song “First Class,” and the tune was recently named the Song of the Summer at the VMAs.
If you somehow managed to miss the song on social media and radio stations across the country, you’re still likely to know “Industry Baby” by Lil Nas X, which features Harlow, and for which the pair won a VMA for best collaboration.
Harlow is currently touring his newly-released album, titled “Come Home the Kids Miss You.”
Harlow’s openers The Homies started the show off with a bang by performing songs from their newest album, “It’s a Lot Going On.” If you’re unfamiliar, “Goat Mami” is a standout song from their album that many fans enjoyed at the performance.
Following The Homies was Harlow’s second opener, The City Girls. They had an amazing, high-energy performance as well, and even had fans go on stage with them to dance and sing. The enjoyment the crowd felt when both opening acts made their presence on stage was beyond words. Everyone was singing and moving along to their upbeat tunes.
His performance started with a short film of Harlow driving around town and pulling into a garage. Followed by that, he started his first song behind a curtain with a spotlight where you can see his silhouette. Once the curtain dropped, Harlow finally stepped onto the stage and the arena went from pitch dark to flashing bright lights. This show was at one of the largest venues on his first major tour – and it was completely sold out. Just as he says in his song “Dua Lipa”: “I sold them basements out, let’s do arenas.”
While on stage, Harlow mentioned how he dreamed about this exact moment – selling out a massive arena and performing for a huge crowd was all he could hope for. His speech to the crowd was heartwarming, and it’s amazing for fans to see how far he came and that he finally made it.
The artist performed songs from his last album “That’s What They All Say,” “Come Home the Kids Miss You” and a few songs from his older albums.
As the night went on, he took a break from singing and chose four fans to come on stage. He had a set in the arrangement of a garage. Complimenting the garage, there was a basketball hoop hanging from the garage head. The fans had to shoot a basketball in a hoop to win free tickets to any show and get a basket of free merch. Harlow said that this was the first time all the fans that were called on stage were able to make a shot into the hoop. This riled the crowd up even more, and the audience erupted into applause and cheers every time someone made a shot.
As the concert came to an end, Harlow played the hit “First Class.” As the crowd enjoyed the end of the show and hearing him perform the single live, Fergie, whose song “Glamorous” is sampled in “First Class,” joined Harlow in a surprise appearance. The energy in the room was already amazing, but once the crowd saw Fergie enter the stage, the energy was palpable.
This was an incredible night for Harlow and his fans, as it felt like the big arenas he rapped about for so long had made it into his real life. Although the L.A. run has finished, Harlow will continue his international tour through November.
