Governor Gavin Newsom’s approval ratings recently dropped by 15 percent. With such a drastic drop in a short amount of time, it’s only natural to wonder why. What do people want to see change in California? Jeffrey Lee has more.

Since his previous election, voters’ most prioritized issues have shifted a bit.

Los Angeles native, Michael Lagos shares his most important issue in the upcoming election cycle.

The policies towards homelessness in Los Angeles, because living here all my life seem like a bunch of people on the streets. It’s only gotten worse and they definitely mean there’s an effort definitely needs to be made to minimize the amount of people in the streets, whether that be with opening shelters and just like the allocation of resources just to all the homeless in the streets. I’ll definitely be considering that in this election.

Ph. D. student, Ashling O’Reilly has more to say on homelessness in the community.

ASHLING O’REILLY: I would say specifically for like price grad students, a lot of us really care about homelessness and people getting free house and not cleaning, cleaning the streets and sweeping like providing actual substantial solutions for homelessness.

Others’ biggest concerns are based on their personal experiences. For example, USC architecture major, Andrew Ghusn....

ANDREW GHUSN: I also think that workers rights are important because as a student, it’s really expensive to live in, like downtown Los Angeles and still have like. A life so I need like a job to fund my life. But that job needs to be more than like minimum wage, especially if I have like limited hours like that. I can work because my major so demanding time wise.

While these are two important issues to consider in the upcoming election, the answer we have all gotten accustomed to is how the governor is dealing with the pandemic. Is that still a priority in the minds of voters? Business major, Katherine Song speaks out.

KATHERINE SONG: It’s like COVID has impacted like the economy a lot, so I feel like for California, particularly because we play such a big role in the economy for the US. I think it’s important to see like what policies would be put in place, and how they enforce that.

With the governor primary election coming up in June, it’s important to recognize the potential impact of the voter’s voice. Change is always needed, it’s just a matter of where. So sprint to the polls to make sure your voice is heard.
