USG senate meeting brief for the week of 2/15

At USG’s meeting on Tuesday night, the Suit Up Program was officially approved, it was confirmed there will be three candidates on the USG presidential ballot, and two organizations announced their efforts to become official student assemblies.

USG Senator Hunter Hinson presented his proposal for the Suit Up Program last week. At the meeting, all senate members voted to move forward and provide funding for the event. The event is a collaboration between USG, USC Student Basic Needs and the USC Career Center. All USC students will be able to receive 30% off discounts for professional attire, jewelry, handbags, shoes and more through purchases online and in-store at JCPenney. Up to 200 students who demonstrate financial need will be able to receive a $150 gift card as well. The program will take place from March 3 to 6.

USG Speaker of the Senate Tommy Nguyen expressed that it will not be the first or last time the budget will approve a project of that nature.

Senator Nivea Krishnan confirmed that three pairs of candidates will be on the USG presidential ballot, but the Senate declined to reveal the names of the two write-in candidates.

Two student organizations, the Middle East North African Student Assembly (MENASA) and the Military Associated Student Assembly (MASA) announced to the Senate their desire to become officially recognized as student assemblies by USG.

USG meetings occur every Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in TCC 350.
