USC has added a four-star quarterback to its 2021 class after Bishop Alemany’s Miller Moss announced his commitment on Twitter Monday afternoon.
Moss, 247 Sports’ No. 62 overall 2021 recruit, announced his commitment to the Trojans over Alabama, UCLA and LSU. He will join four-star quarterback Jake Garcia, giving USC two of the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2021 class. Moss said Garcia’s presence didn’t affect his decision.
“I never looked at USC with an asterisk, as if ‘Oh, they have a quarterback committed, I’m not as interested there,’” Moss said. “I have a ton of confidence in who I am as a player and a person, and I know the lengths I’m willing to go to achieve what I want to achieve. The quarterback position is predicated on competition. It only makes you better. So I’m definitely looking forward to going in there and competing.”
Staying in Los Angeles was important to Moss’ decision. He grew up rooting for USC, and his father went to UCLA. However, he also said he would have chosen USC whether it was close to home or not.
“When it came down to it, I felt like USC provided the best combination of everything I wanted in a school,” Moss said Monday. “It goes [sic] from being in L.A., the city I love, the city I grew up in and want to live in when I’m older, to being able to build my network there, to going to a situation in a quarterback room where I could be developed by coach [Graham] Harrell and [head] coach [Clay] Helton for the next level. It just made a lot of sense.”
Moss singled out Harrell as an essential part of his recruitment.
“I think the fact that he played the quarterback position and had so much success doing so, makes him really attractive to a quarterback being coached by him," Moss said. "I think there are certain things you can't really understand about this position unless you play it. Being coached by someone that's been there and had the success he's had is really special.”
Moss plans to enroll early in December; however, he said that timeline could be delayed if the high school football season is delayed.
The addition of Moss puts USC at fourth in 247’s 2021 recruiting rankings and gives the team its eighth top 200 recruit of the class after having just one in the top 400 in 2020.
