The Hollywood Bowl was ‘Burnin’ Up’ for the Jonas Brothers

After a six-year hiatus, the Jonas Brothers – Nick, Joe, and Kevin Jonas – announced earlier this year that the band would be getting back together.

I’ve been a fan of the Jonas Brothers since I was eight. I was devastated by their breakup in 2013. I never imagined a band of brothers would go their separate ways.

When they announced the release of a new album and a tour, I couldn’t have been more thrilled. It was the only thing my friends and I could talk about. I was so excited to officially see the Jonas Brothers perform together again.

Some of my favorite memories in elementary school, middle school, and yes even high school was when my mom would take me to a Jonas Brothers concert. Once the brothers released their new album, “Happiness Begins,” they announced the dates for the supporting tour and I instantly bought tickets to the Los Angeles show.

The LA stops of the tour included two back-to-back, sold-out shows at one of LA’s most historic concert venues, the Hollywood Bowl. Since this was their first time performing there, the Jonas Brothers sold an exclusive Hollywood Bowl shirt and poster for fans in attendance.

For the entirety of the show, screams echoed throughout the Hollywood Hills from a large enthusiastic crowd. The brothers performed songs from their new album, but included many of their popular throwback hits such as “S.O.S,” “Year 3000,” “Lovebug” and “When You Look Me In The Eyes.”

The concert started with a video montage of the brothers before the band graced the onstage. When they finally appeared in their bright fluorescent suits, the roar of the crowd was so loud it was hard to hear the beginning of their first song.

The video montage throughout the show alluded to the band’s struggles over the years and matched along with the songs they were performing.

The opening song of their set was “Rollarcoaster,” a song off “Happiness Begins” that highlights the brothers’ ride as a band and what it took for them to get back together.

In the middle of the show, the boys moved to the Hollywood Bowl’s second stage, so they could be closer to the fans in the back. This part of the show was entirely acoustic and included a fan requested song: “Hello Beautiful,” a song off their 2007 self-titled album.

Before the band went back to the main stage, Nick and Joe gave an ode to their projects during the band’s hiatus and sang songs from their solo careers. Nick started it off by performing his hit song “Jealous,” and Joe ended it by performing “Cake by the Ocean.” It was a nice way to honor the projects that happened during their breakup.

The brothers ended the concert with an encore which included one of their classics, “Burnin’ Up,” and their new number one single, “Sucker" – which ended the show along with a fireworks display, literally and figuratively causing fireworks for everyone in attendance with their fantastic show.

Once the show was over and I was stuck in the Hollywood Bowl traffic, I took a seat back and let it all sink in. I may be a graduate student now, but being able to sing my heart and lungs out at a Jonas Brothers concert in 2019 is more than I could’ve asked for.

Thank you for reuniting Nick, Joe, and Kevin. Your fans couldn’t be more grateful.
