Pasquale DeRosa was one of Long Beach's most celebrated architects in the 1960s. Known for his unique form, Googie Art, he and his partners Daly and Powers changed the way buildings were constructed. Reporter Victoria Berggren, the architect's granddaughter, dives deeper into his career and influence in her hometown.
Born in Italy, DeRosa and his family immigrated to the US and settled in Brooklyn, New York. After high school, he went on to get his degree in architecture from Pratt University in New York City. But his architectural dreams were put on hold when he joined in the army. After completing his service, he and his family relocated to the West Coast where he teamed up with other local architects to create a firm now known as Powers, Daly, and DeRosa.
