Exclusive Interview with USC Annenberg Dean Willow Bay on the Oscars

USC Annenberg Dean Willow Bay shares her Oscars night experience with The Buzz host Melicia Johnson.

The Buzz's Melicia Johnson sat down with USC Annenberg Dean Willow Bay to get her opinion on this year's Oscars. Dean Bay is a regular attendee of the award show, but she said this year's Oscars felt extremely special. They discussed the speech given by Best Actress winner, Frances McDormand. Bay points out that the mention of an "inclusion rider" was a shoutout to Annenberg's own Professor Stacy Smith and the research she conducts through the Inclusion Initiative, which analyzes how many minorities are represented in entertainment.  Bay also discusses the diverse racial representation within Disney movies, like Black Panther and Coco. She expressed her frustration with "tone-deaf" articles covering Hollywood executives in attendance, while praising the work of host Jimmy Kimmel. Unlike most award shows, Dean Bay said she believes fashion was not the main focus of the night. Instead, the stars were focused on spreading their message of equality.
