President Donald Trump proudly waved the USA Today newspaper with the bold headline ‘ACQUITTED’ at the National Prayer Breakfast Thursday morning in Washington D.C. His speech comes just a day after the close of the Senate hearing where the president was found not guilty of two charges of impeachment.
“My family, our great country and your president have been put through a terrible ordeal by some very dishonest and corrupt people,” Trump said. “I don’t like people who use their faith as justification for doing what they know is wrong.”
These were just some of the comments that Trump made this morning, getting media outlets like National Review and the Washington Post to speculate that Trump was attacking Senator Mitt Romney. The Utah senator was the only Republican to vote Trump guilty to abuse of power.
On Wednesday, Romney emphasized his religious faith as a major factor in his decision to vote Trump guilty.
At a press conference on Thursday, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi said the remarks to Romney were “without class.”
“I pray hard for him because he’s so off the track of our constitution, our country, the air our children breathe, the water they drink and the rest,” Pelosi added.
