In the midst of California’s relentless wildfire season, residents and their animals rushed to evacuate from their homes. However, horse owners of Simi Valley faced particular challenges getting their animals to safety. Though some people were able to transport their horses in trailers to designated shelters, others came face-to-face with the fires. Volunteers and others banded together to help evacuate horses from affected ranches. Most of these animals were brought to Ventura County Fairgrounds, which acts as a main holding ground for animals affected by these emergencies. There, Ventura County Animal Services provide food, water and security for the time being.
