On National Voter Registration Day, USC Athletics announced the Galen Center will be a registered polling place from October 30th through Election Day.

The home of the Trojans basketball and volleyball teams will be transformed into a voting site with help from volunteers representing USC Athletics, University Relations, VoteSC and the Center for the Political Future.

To prevent the spread of COVID-19, strict protocols will be in place at the Galen Center. Face coverings will be required at all times, and there will be frequent sanitizing of equipment as well as measures to ensure physical distance is maintained by those in the center.

Free parking will be available to voters at the Figueroa Parking Structure near the Galen Center.

USC and the Athletics Department are working to promote early voting and civic engagement within the student population.

USC Dornsife’s Center for the Political Future and VoteSC have worked to increase voter turnout and engagement within the USC Community by increasing the information available on voting and elections, as well as holding events to engage students and ensuring there is a polling location on campus. These efforts have led to USC’s student voter registration numbers increasing from 16% in 2014 to 45% in 2018.

“Our goal this year is to achieve 100 percent participation at USC, especially among our student body,” Folt said in a press release Tuesday.

Last month, USC Athletic Director Mike Bohn announced that no athletic practices will be held on Election Day to allow student-athletes to cast their ballot.

Athletic teams at USC are using social media to promote and challenge other teams to reach full voter registration. The women’s basketball team began the wave by announcing all 13 student-athletes have registered to vote with the help of assistant coach Erin Grant and Coaches 4 Change, a group of collegiate coaches across the nation committed to educating and empowering young voters on social justice issues. Since then, the men’s basketball, women’s and men’s golf, lacrosse and beach volleyball teams have all announced 100% voter registration.
