As USC initiated online instruction and cancelled events due to coronavirus, faith leaders and students began to confront the ways the shutdown would affect them specifically. Congregation is often an important part of spiritual practice, but as large group gatherings are being discouraged, some students are thinking of new ways they can connect with one another.

The Dean of Religious Life at at USC, Varun Soni, said, “We have cancelled all programs, events and worship services for the duration of the online period which right now is going on until April 15th.”

He added, “This is an important time for students to be aware of their inner lives, not just what’s going on in the outside world but what’s going on in the inside world... Give space to the fact that this is a challenging unprecedented situation and make the most of the time they have with the people they care about right now."
