As part of Los Angeles’s effort to combat the immense homelessness crisis facing the city, Mayor Eric Garcetti developed the “A Bridge Home” initiative in April 2018. “A Bridge Home” takes advantage of new state laws that enable the city to construct bridge housing on any land owned or leased by the city.
The newest bridge home, on Hope St. in Los Angeles’ 9th district. There are currently 3200 people experiencing homelessness in District 9 at this time. The shelter will temporarily house 100 people, 65 men and 35 women.
“A Bridge Home” aims to bring people in off streets surrounding the shelters and eventually move residents into more permanent housing.
