Things are getting more complicated between Lonzo and his GF, Denise, as the show continues with episodes 5 through 7. When Lonzo gets back from NBA summer league as a winner, he is already on a 6:30am training the very next day. That's a champion's life, according to LaVar. Good for Denise, as she takes her time while Lonzo in practicing to put their photos in every room at his fancy apartment. Even if Lonzo is okay with that, for us it seems to be a bit intense. Lonzo reacts politely with that "if she wants these pictures up, they're definitely staying up."
Next thing point out is Lonzo's rapping hobby – and he's good at it. But guess what – another girl's name is in the song, and Denise doesn't like this creative freedom. Allegedly, this girl is just a hometown friend, but what is only one line freaks Denise out.
But relax, Lonzo knows how to fix things – a trip to Vegas and sexy dinner outfit for his lady soothe the situation a bit. What he doesn't know is that Denise was just waiting for another moment to bring the song up again. Thankfully, she gets over it soon, and Lonzo admits he needs to be the very best in this relationship.
Lonzo isn't the only one in love – we finally meet Gelo's GF, Izzy. They seem to be sweet, but Gelo can't hide his confusion when asked if she's his best friend. Obviously, he doesn't think in such terms. We feel awkwardness between these two, and Gelo seems not so eager to keep conversation going. Well, we don't know yet if it's because of cameras, or Gelo just doesn't appreciate those girly questions about his feelings. Anyways their scenes are really uncomfortable. And that's why we like reality, right?
What we also find out is that Gelo's a very picky eater – one of those people who use a napkin to wipe the sauce from steak. Apparently, Izzy is used to this kind of behaviour, reacting with humour. We say they're cute enough, but no more than that.
Meanwhile, pressure rises to the top for Melo. This time the challenge is his own birthday signature shoe – too bad Melo can't come up with something that doesn't already exist. Miracle happens when LaVar leaves the room – Melo starts drawing. A good father knows when to let his child figure it out on his own.
On a basketball side, Melo is having intensive practicing under LaVar's eye. He's coaching Melo for the AAU tournament, bringing Tina to those trainings. This helps Melo show what he can for with all energy possible. All these efforts are to make his mom happy.
It's a relief to finally see Melo in a positive light even for a moment, but again he fails, staying up all night before the game. No surprise he lacks energy, the team loses, and LaVar is struggling to still have big hopes for his son. But for now, the proud father is sure there's a bright future for Melo who just needs to grow up faster.
We think there's should be more compassion for Melo. Just imagine – another Melo's tournament was nearly shut down because of the crowd of fans outside. Overwhelming, right?
The same game, LaVar clashes with a woman referee. He questions her judging and makes the entire team leave the game. Is it just not liking women? LaVar says no – treating everyone equally and staying true to himself are his principles.
We believe in LaVar, as we see him helping Tina to recover – this guidance is just what she needs. Hopes are that she gets better soon – and in the end of day, it's all about love. How cute is that to see them eating cherries together just like when they were 23 year old? Tina's struggle can make anyone tear up, but she's almost speaking again.
More to come in the upcoming episodes.
