Its socio-political climate and economic crisis have caused the opposition to demand the government to hold general elections, to provide humanitarian help, and to release political prisoners. The government of President Nicolás Maduro has agreed on regional elections.

Uncertainty strikes faculty members and students of CEU, an English-language university accredited by the United States and Hungary. The university is hoping to stay in Budapest, but it may have to consider closing or relocating due to these tough restrictions.
