Following the investigation of a suspicious package in the Chase Bank on Figueroa Street and Jefferson Boulevard on Monday, the LAPD Bomb Squad found no sign of a threat and the scene was cleared.

According to a TrojansAlert, the "package contained nothing hazardous."

Shops on the ground floor and the first and second floors of University Gateway were evacuated while police investigated.

"I was in my room and they came on the loud speaker and said it wasn't a drill, we had to evacuate," said Erica Engle, a senior at USC and Gateway resident.

Arnim Whisler, a senior at USC, said he was concerned for "the safety of my friends who are in the building, because they're still in there, and they don't know what to do."

Shops reopened and residents were allowed back into the building after about an hour when the scene was declared safe.

Brad Streicher and Ali Main also contributed to this report.
