Peeple, a new app that lets users rate and recommend people they know, launched on Monday.

The app allows users to categorize their rating as professional, personal, or romantic.

Peeple has been described as a "Yelp" app for humans, although the two apps are not associated.

In the new app, users can create their own profile and link it to their Facebook account. The app asks users to describe themselves in three words under three categories: occupation, passion, and interest. Users can follow and search others in their network or nearby.

When the app was announced in the fall of 2015, many criticized the reputation problems it could cause.

In an age where both truth and gossip on the Internet can literally ruin lives, this #peeple app is horrible AND scary #yelpforhumans???

The app's developers have defended the app by showing its suggested use in a promotional video.
